A mobile money agent pleads with police officers following his arrest for allegedly defying their orders to close his business. Most Ugandans don't have bank accounts and rely on mobile money as a means of paying for goods and services. Closure of these little kiosks further adds to the difficulty of the current lockdown.

Many of you have asked how you can help ease the suffering of people in Uganda. Bottom-line. You CAN HELP. There are a number of organizations that are on the ground, nimble and have a track record of good work. The biggest need right now – food.

Fields of Life - Donate - Fields of Life. A small Irish charity that accepts US based gifts. Our dear friend works there. This is a Ugandan staffed organization working all over the country. They are small enough that any gift makes a big difference.

World Vision - Coronavirus Health Crisis | Emergency | World Vision International (wvi.org). Designate your giving for Uganda Lockdown Relief. Our friend is the Ugandan country manager for this amazing organization. Their US fundraising headquarters is in Federal Way. They are big but do really solid work on the ground. They have nearly 850 Ugandan staff spread throughout the country working in the poorest communities of need.

Young Life - Gift Designation (younglife.org)Designate to Area XR126 – Uganda Relief Fund. There are 35 Ugandan staff and hundreds of volunteer leaders throughout the country. Word came last night from the Country Director – “In is not easy anywhere. We are desperate. The communities are in dire need. Our leaders and staff are in need …”

Prayer. It works!

Even when tragedy doesn’t make sense to us, God is weaving hope and help into the brokenness. I realized last night that I didn’t have a key phone number I needed and woke up this morning to a message from that person with a totally different question. That put me in touch with the US based director for Young Life Africa and we are working to get the ball moving to provide in country staff and volunteers the extra help they need.

Thank you all for your care for those living on the other side of the world.
