This past weekend, a terrorist attack in Western Uganda made international headlines! NY Post - Uganda Attack

At least 41 people at a local boarding school where slaughtered by extremist rebels crossing over the border from the Congo. More young boys are still missing.

Although this attack is hours away from where we are living, I’ve followed this story closely because at least 14 of the students killed were involved with Young Life – the organization through which Scott and I met and I am involved with here in Uganda.

Last night we were on a Zoom call with US supporters and the 5 key regional staff in Uganda. We were updated and spent a significant time in prayer. There are volunteer leaders in the town of Kasese who have known kids at this school for a number of years. Many of these young people attended Young Life camp in the past few months.

Please join me in praying for these leaders and the especially for Augustine, the Regional Director, who travelled hours yesterday from Kampala to be on the ground to support the local leaders and families of those killed, wounded or missing. Things on the ground are still very tenuous. Security is tight as the perpetrators have not been found and a number of students are still missing and presumed kidnapped. It is very hard to gather (as groups are suspect and threaten security) so please pray that Augustine and the local leadership will be able to find favor with the security forces so that they will be able to bring tangible care and comfort to those who are impacted by this tragedy.

Young Life has established an emergency fund to provide assistance for this immediate need – medical bills for the wounded, burial expenses and other incidental needs. This is a community of people living with very little financial margin so any assistance will bring a great deal of hope at a very distressing time. (Isn’t that an understatement!)

If you are interested in giving – your support will be distributed immediately. Our goal is to raise $5,000. Young Life is in the community right now caring for the families of those impacted by this horrific event.

Thank you dear friend. The current update is that the community is in crisis…. Folks going to bed hungry as they don’t want to go out in the fields to gather food for fear of attack. YL teams are fanning out provide care and support!
