Today is our 29th Wedding anniversary!
We celebrated a bit early. My favorite food is Ethiopian. Scott was travelling to Ethiopia last week for Pepperdine so he invited me to join him. And I finally was able to eat this delicious food in its country of origin!
While Scott, had a few days of meetings to discuss the possibility of Ethiopia working with Pepperdine's Global Justice Institute to roll out plea bargaining and public defence, i was able to do some exploring.
Unlike in Uganda, I went an entire three days without finding a pothole. It was safe to walk and there was so much to discover. I did notice that every corner had a shoe shine guy. This isn't a thing in Uganda but Ethiopians seem to like clean shoes. I found exotic spices, excellant coffee (the first coffee roasted for drinking was from Ethiopia) and light weight cotton textiles which are distictly Ethiopian.
Scott doesn't like tourist destinations. He'll eat locally and I'd be surprised if he ever took a cruise - too organized by someone else. But a true highlight of our trip to Addis Ababa (the capital city) was a lovely dinner with two woman who are part of the team who are tasked with deciding if they will work with Pepperdine.
We enjoyed remarkable local food and dance. Yes, there were a number of visitors like us but also a significant number of Ethiopians. The music and entertainment were amazing. I have no ability to shake my head or shoulders like these dancers did for HOURS. This video barely shows how talented these beautiful young people are. They tried to get Scott to join them on stage but he politely deferred to the large group of Chinese men sitting behind us. They weren't very good.
It was a memorable few days. I have another stamp in my passport. But most of all, I can say that life with Scott is NEVER boring. I'm so very grateful for this season with a man who is fun, gifted, smart, and passionate about justice and life!
Thanks Scott! I love you!!!

Congratulations on your 29th anniversary! And what an exotic place to spend it. Kind of makes our anniversary dinner at Bai Thong's pale in comparison. 😉 Hopefully, we'll see you soon for the holidays.
